FAQs
Therapy: Our services are not covered by OHIP, but therapy is often covered by extended health benefit plans. At Mindset First, we have both psychotherapists and social workers, which are frequently covered through benefits. Please contact your benefit provider to verify your coverage. Additionally, psychotherapy and mental health services are considered a medical expense tax credit by Revenue Canada. Any fees not covered by your benefits can be claimed on your income tax return.
Mental Performance Consulting: Mental performance consulting/counseling sessions are not covered under OHIP or extended health benefits. However, if your plan includes a Health Care Spending Account, our services may qualify as an eligible medical expense and can be claimed on your income tax return, as defined by the Canada Revenue Agency.
Therapy is a process of working with a trained professional to explore and resolve challenging feelings, thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and emotional responses. Our practitioners help clients gain insight and improve various aspects of their lives. While starting therapy can feel intimidating, its benefits can be truly life-changing, helping clients manage stress, overcome emotional challenges, and live more fulfilling lives.
Mental performance consulting helps athletes and performers enhance their mental game to improve resilience, confidence, and well-being. Just as physical training is essential to excel in sports, mental training is equally important. A mental performance consultant works with you to address the mental barriers that may affect your performance, using personalized tools and strategies to help you thrive.
There are many reasons why individuals, couples, families, athletes, and performers reach out for support, including:
- Improving self-confidence
- Coping with adversity and stress
- Managing difficult emotions and thoughts
- Developing positive self-talk and goal-setting
- Improving relationships
- Overcoming life transitions and challenges
- Building resilience and motivation
Everyone’s journey is different. While some clients may feel relief after just one session, many find that 6-10 sessions provide meaningful progress for specific concerns. For more complex issues, ongoing therapy may be necessary. The number of sessions depends on your unique situation, goals, and the support you need.
We ask that clients provide at least 24 hours’ notice if they need to cancel an appointment. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will result in a no-show fee equal to the full session rate. We kindly ask for your understanding, as short notice makes it difficult to offer the time slot to another client in need.
Yes, we offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. This is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and determine whether our services are a good fit for your needs.
